This stable or church turret clock was probably made around the 1860’s.
A quarter Westminster chime with hour strike on 5th. (largest) bell, with maintaining power, to use when winding the going train. It has 2 dials, one is in use on the stand. It has a seconds pendulum, each swing takes a second.It works and chimes perfectly.
“THE WESTMINSTER CHIME”.The Cambridge chime was first used at St. Mary’s church, Cambridge in 1793. It is believed to have been compiled by Doctor Jarrat and Doctor Crotch from works by Handel.
It was shortened in 1858 for the clock in St. Stephens Tower, in the Palace of Westminster. (Big Ben) The chime is set to the following words
“All through this hour, Lord, be my guide, And by thy power, No foot shall slide”
It comes with 6 pulleys, and mechanisms for use of the second dial, weights, 2 dials with 2 sets of hands and winder on a stand allowing the clock to work, chime and strike.
Currently fitted within a wooden frame, 6ft 6ins high, 4ft wide, 3ft 6ins deep.
